ABOUT ISLAND BOUND MEDIA WORKS

Based on the central east coast of Vancouver Island, IBMW is a production company that specializes in documentary film, video, and photography. Established in 2000 by Cinematographer and Documentary Filmmaker Richard Boyce, Island Bound Media Works produces film and video productions for education, television broadcasts, public screenings, and websites. Our focus is on social-political issues that make this world a better place for all, with particular emphasis on the natural wilderness on Vancouver Island.

PRODUCTION SERVICES...

IBMW has experience with 16mm & 35mm film, all forms of video including digital, Beta SP, and HDTV. We develop, produce, shoot, edit, and release media productions for television, film screenings, educational, DVD, and websites.

We specialize in shooting in those hard-to-reach wilderness locations. We produce custom- made videos that are primarily used to document and educate.

SHOOTING IN THE RAINFOREST CANOPY...

Our specialized team of professional climbers has developed techniques for filming high up in the canopy of the ancient temperate rainforest.

WILDERNESS GUIDE for PRODUCTION CREWS...

We can take you directly to the remote wilderness locations that you require for your production's shoot. With the experienced eye of a seasoned documentary cinematographer, we have explored much of Vancouver Island in search of the perfect shots at:

  • deep valleys of primeval rainforest
  • mountain tops, raging rivers, pristine lakes
  • rugged coastlines, remote bogs, and serene sandy beaches.

Richard is a Master Woodland Manager certified by Forestry Renewal BC, who regularly guides the public on educational tours of the forest, and who also has both a BFA and MFA in Film. Producers and production companies looking for specific remote locations are usually under pressure for time and have limited knowledge of the wilderness where their subjects can be found. Island Bound Media Works can deliver you right to the images you want.

ARCHIVED SHOTS...

We have a vast archive of video images shot in the wilderness of Vancouver Island including: pristine nature, wildlife, industrial logging, and people outdoors. See VIDEO & PHOTO GALLERY for examples but know that there are hundreds more hours of rushes available for your productions needs. Please CONTACT Richard for details.

BIO - RICHARD BOYCE...

Richard Boyce, BFA, MFA Specialization in Film Production BFA 1990 Concordia University - Montreal, Quebec MFA 1995 University of British Columbia - Vancouver, BC

The founder and driving force behind ISLAND BOUND MEDIA WORKS, Richard grew up on Vancouver Island in British Columbia, Canada. Working with respected filmmakers, Richard has shot documentary films from the heart as a cinematographer working in extreme conditions from the icy streets of Montreal to the heat of the Sahara Desert, across the USA and Canada, to the wild and wet climate of the Pacific Coast Rainforest deep with the ancient rainforest of Vancouver Island.

Richard first plugged into video productions at an early age as a founding collaborator volunteering in a local video organization called Exploring Television with Children. For five years he contributed as a host, camera kid, and finally directed two episodes, the first about Challenge Children entering the Public School System, and the second focusing on the need for Nuclear Disarmament.

To gain more technical training, Richard moved to Montreal to study film production at Concordia University where he embarked upon a journey into the documentary film world that would bring him closer to his subjects and beyond his technical ability. His work on the streets of Montreal contributed to our national film identity and launched his professional career as a documentary cinematographer and associate director on "The Street - a film with the homeless. Richard continues to work with homeless people as the Victoria Outreach Worker for: http: //homelessnation.org.

Throughout his productions, Richard maintains a deep respect for his subjects and provides them with an atmosphere in which to express themselves honestly and without restraint. His current production "Such Great Heights" has Richard climbing high up into the tops of trees to capture the unique wilderness found only in the canopy of the ancient rainforest on the remote west coast of Vancouver Island, just north of the Brook's Peninsula in Klaskish Inlet.
